The building practices dominating contemporary architecture are rooted in the exploitation of people and the degradation of our landscapes. Here, Ricardo created a world of his own, exposing the concrete forms from beneath years of dust and smoke, encouraging nature back onto the structure, and fine-tuning the balance between its monumental scale and a delicate, human sensibility, in one of the earliest examples of the reuse of an industrial building—and it’s still changing.

This new edition expands on the book we originally published in 2018, featuring exclusive archival imagery courtesy of RBTA and an expansive selection of photographs taken by Nacho Alegre on his visits to La Fábrica over the last decade. It delves into the promises of the past, those of childhood, and its possible futures. We imagined them without limits, like that car bodyworker, a fine poet, who adorned his shop with the sign HORIZON 2000. The deadline, we imagined it so distant, inevitably futuristic. It shared with the horizon a taste for the infinite and hinted at the idea of progress for all, sprinkled with whimsy and vehicles suspended in the air. The Citroën BX, the car of the future, was one of its symbols, with its revolutionary hydropneumatic suspension promising an escape into unmatched comfort and aerodynamics, beyond the limits of our conditions back then. The book is a series of photographs taken in 2021 and 2022, when the artist visited Daegu. The first photographs in the book are a series taken in 2021 and show the artist's brainstorming process to explore Daegu-related themes. The second series of photographs is the main body of the book and is a full-fledged observational account of the artist's visit to Daegu. In this series, which is part photographic essay, part travel diary, the artist captures stories and scenes of Daegu's ponds that have existed, have not existed, have not existed, yet have existed. In this exploration of the blurring of boundaries between pond and lake, reservoir and water, Daegu is not a dull and uninteresting city, not a politically conservative neighborhood, not a region of Samsung and apples, but one of many fluid cities whose fictionalized past and present play out in people's memories.

First edition
Published October 31, 2023
Photos and texts: Dohyeon Eom
Editing: Kay Jun
Book design: Jae Wan Jung
Printing and binding by K.B. Halfway between the architecture we manipulate and the furniture we live in, the tent covers a wide range of uses and brings together heterogeneous realities. Reminiscent of primitive huts, descended from military encampments, shelter for leisure or refuge, precarious yet resistant, protective yet porous, tents are used in both delineated and extreme environments. Simply assembled from ultra-high-performance materials, they are designed in the West and produced in Southeast Asia. Even more than the single-material objects studied in previous Typologie reviews, this composite object makes us aware of the complex nature of the things that surround us.

The book is composed of 136 pages and published both in a French and an English version. The first part of the book gather a collection of 55 tents from all around the world. This part is carefully photographed and reproduced in bichromie and white along 88 pages. The second part of the book put together an introduction text by industrial designer Sina Sohrab and a crossed interview between three professionals who are sensitive to and knowledgeable about it: Olivier Sirost, historian and sociologist specialized in Camping, Anna Ferrino, director of the Italian company Ferrino, the oldest manufacturer of tent in Europe and Raphael Têtedoie, a designer of outdoor gears and expert in tent. This section, which spans 48 pages, is illustrated with a photo report from a Chinese factory, archival images, and a photographic series by Anaick Lejart and Marine Armandin

Texts by Sina Sohrab, Olivier Sirost, Anna Ferrino, Raphaël Têtedoie.

Published in September 2025
Softcover
21 x 26 cm
136 pages
ISBN: 978-2-490958-09-2 (English version)
ISBN: 978-2-490958-08-5 (French version)

© Collection Typologie

Launch / Signing
November 20, 2025
6 PM - 8 PM

In the presence of authors Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost, Margaux Cassan, Vanessa Schneider and Chiara Parisi

This monograph devoted to Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost's interior design work over the last thirty years provides an opportunity to revisit her important research through models, drawings and prototypes.

Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost is a designer and artistic director at the Dominique Perrault Architecture agency.
