Ann Ray presents for the first time in Paris, at the gallery and in this book an unprecedented collection of photographs: portraits of artists with their eyes shut, taken over the last 20 years, for the main part in analogue form.
This major body of works offers a reflection on creation, in the closed-eyed intimacy of the authors, visual artists, dancers, actors and musicians on whom the photographer has directed her sensitive eye.
Captured in the youth of their talent or the maturity of their iconic status, these portraits of humility give us a chance to guess, without artifice, all the subdued soul of a gallery of portraits of our time.
From Nicola L. to Gilbert and George, Alexander McQueen or Yasmina Reza, from Michael Nyman to Gautier Capuçon, from Aurélie Dupont to Nicolas Lenche or Mikhail Baryshnikov, Willem Dafoe or Guillaume Gallienne, interlaced with oniric landscapes, Ann Ray reveals the story of these beautiful encounters in one image and a few words. A poetic introspection, an invitation to dream with your eyes open... or shut...
