Jean-Charles Blais
Jean-Charles Blais develops a style of painting based on spontaneous and intuitive gestures, conceived as a continuum from one work to the next, nourished by the interaction between gesture, the eye and memory. He works mainly from salvaged posters, whose unpredictability directly influences the composition and contributes to a desacralisation of art. Often associated with Figuration Libre, he nevertheless claims a singular approach, deliberately blurring the distinction between abstraction and figuration. His recent works, marked by black silhouettes on coloured backgrounds, leave plenty of room for interpretation by the viewer. He exhibited at the Librairie-Galerie Yvon Lambert in 2021 and 2023, and was selected for Art Paris 2025 as part of the Regards sur la scène française section, which highlights major artists on the national contemporary scene.
