Silence Destroys Consequences
Italian-Swiss artist Vittorio Santoro lives and works between Paris and Zurich.
Titled “Silence Destroys Consequences”, this publication is the culmination of a project initiated in March 2010, when Santoro distributed invitation letters to hundreds of people containing simple instructions: “In the central section, please write the following sentence by hand: Silence destroys consequences.” This book gathers reproductions of the letters and envelopes returned by the participants.
Santoro took part in the process himself, hiding his own letter in a secret location. At his request, two people undertook a walk through Paris along a specific route, taking notes as they progressed until they found a thin sealed metal box containing the letter at the end of their journey. Transcriptions of this walk are recorded on a vinyl record accompanying the volume.
Typeset by Thibault Caizergues in Pica 10 and Miller Text types, the book was printed on the presses of Art & Caractère in Lavaur on 80 gsm Focus Book Natural paper.
