Published together here for the first time, these texts map the formation of ideas that would come to define his practice: the responsibilities of design, the value of usefulness, and the quiet authority of ordinary things. From autobiographical manifestos and his 1985 RCA thesis to later essays, musings, and even notes for an unfinished novel, this compendium of 31 texts captures the honing of a lifelong argument about what design is—and what it should be. Taking its title from his 1991 essay The Unimportance of Form, one of his most searching critiques of the designer’s role, the book offers rare access to the early thinking of one of design’s most influential figures, from ideas behind objects not yet iconic to reflections on his expanding relationship with the industry. Celebrated for objects that feel as though they were always meant to exist, Jasper is also a sharp, sceptical, and often humorous writer. About Jasper Morrison
Jasper Morrison is a British designer known for furniture, lighting, tableware, and everyday objects that fit seamlessly into daily life. Born in London in 1959, he studied at Kingston Polytechnic, the Royal College of Art, and Berlin’s HdK, and founded his Office for Design in 1986. He made his name with works such as Thinking Man’s Chair (1985) and the Plywood Chair (1988), and has gone on to design furniture and products for companies including Vitra, Flos, Cappellini, Muji, Alessi, and many others. Morrison co-curated the influential Super Normal exhibition in 2006 with Naoto Fukasawa, which became a defining moment in his practice. Alongside a canon of published books, including A World Without Words (2011), The Good Life (2014), and Super Normal (2006), his contributions to design have earned him membership in the Royal Designers for Industry, a Compasso d’Oro, and a CBE.

All other orders are processed and prepared for shipment within 1-2 business days. - Order Notifications
You will receive a confirmation email immediately after your purchase. A second email with tracking information will be sent as soon as your order has shipped. - Restocking
Occasionally, some item may be in the process of restocking. If this causes a delay in preparing your order, we will contact you directly by email to inform you.
2. Shipping & Delivery
- Packaging
We pack every order with care to ensure it arrives safely. Posters and prints are rolled and placed in a sturdy cardboard tube, which is then secured in a shipping box.
Important Note on Combined Orders:
Please be aware that certain items, like books and posters, cannot be safely packed together due to their different shapes and sizes. As a result, an order containing multiple item types may be shipped in separate packages and incur separate shipping fees. - Shipping Rates & Carriers
We ship worldwide from Paris via La Poste (France's national postal service), using their Colissimo, Priority Mail, or Delivengo services. Shipping costs are automatically calculated at checkout based on the weight, volume, and destination of your package. If you require a different carrier (e.g., UPS, FedEx, DHL), please contact us before placing your order to arrange it. - Estimated Transit Times
Once your order has shipped, the estimated delivery times are as follows:

3. Free In-Store Pickup (Paris)
You can skip the shipping fees with our free local pickup service at our bookshop in Paris.

* If you are ordering from outside of France but wish to pick up your order at our bookshop in Paris, please select 'France' as the delivery country first. The 'Pick up' option will then become available. - Preparation Time:
In-stock items will be ready for pickup within 24 hours (Tuesday-Saturday). This does not apply to made-to-order items like art prints and t-shirts. - Notification:
We will send you an email as soon as your order is ready for collection, along with instructions. - Pickup Hours:

Return Policy
- 30-Day Returns: You can return any item within 30 days of delivery, as long as it's in new, unused condition.
- Contact Us First: Always email us at shop@yvon-lambert.com before sending anything back. We’ll guide you through the process.
- Shipping Costs: You are responsible for return shipping costs. Please note that original shipping fees are non-refundable.
- Exchanges: Yes, we offer exchanges. Contact us to arrange it. You will need to cover the new shipping fee.
- Damaged Item: If your order arrives damaged, email us photos within 48 hours. If the box looks badly damaged upon arrival, you can refuse the delivery.
- International Returns: You must write "RETURNED GOODS" clearly on the outside of the package to avoid customs fees.
- Refunds: Once we approve your return, your refund will be processed to your original payment method.
