Adel Abdessemed & Adonis

Invited by Yvon Lambert to participate in the collection, Franco-Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed chose to collaborate with the celebrated Syrian-Lebanese poet Adonis.

This 628-page volume pairs still frames from Abdessemed’s video “Histoire de la folie ”[History of Madness] with one hundred and one unpublished poems by Adonis (translated from Arabic by Ali Ibrahim and Philippe Sergeant).

Printed on Munken Print White bulky paper (70 and 115 gsm), the volume features two letters exchanged between the artist and the poet inserted under the dust jacket, a facsimile of a postcard from Yvon Lambert, and a carbon pigment print of a portrait of Adonis by Adel Abdessemed, produced by Droit à l’Image (Le Bono, Morbihan). Project coordination was handled by Lisa Rey-Galiay. Printing was executed by Art & Caractère in Lavaur, and the binding and dry-stamped slipcase were crafted by La Reliure d’Art du Centre in Limoges, under the supervision of Stéphane Crémer.
