Mircea Cantor
Permanent Leak
Romanian artist Mircea Cantor lives and works between Paris and Cluj.
Titled “Permanent Leak”, this publication takes the form of a boxed leporello. It presents a facsimile of a continuous paper frieze featuring pencil rubbings of ears of wheat, coins from around the world (sourced from the collection of La Monnaie de Paris), and barbed wire drawn by the artist using his own fingerprints. Fully unfolded, the book extends to over six meters in length.
The volume consists of twenty-four panels constructed from three layered papers. Photogravure and Fine Art printing were produced by Les Artisans du Regard on 70 gsm Inbe Thin White Japanese rice paper, custom-made for this edition. The box is covered in red marouflaged silk with a velvet suede interior lining. Binding and casing were produced by La Reliure d’Art du Centre. Xavier Barral supervised the production of the edition.
