Major Japanese conceptual artist On Kawara (1933–2014) dissolved the materiality of the art object to focus on pure thought and the passage of time.

Titled “CODES”, this publication gathers three codes chosen by the artist: Les Lettres d’Amour (1965 code, screen printed by Éric Seydoux), Eight Quintillion (1969 code, set in Times type), and Six Senses (1995 code, written specifically for the book, transcribed into Braille by Corine Chapon and printed by the Fondation Valentin Haüy in Paris). The entire work is printed on custom 180 gsm pure rag paper crafted specifically for this publication by the Moulin de Fleurac, featuring a watermark by Cy Twombly.

For the first time in the collection, the volume features a new text: the poem “SIX CODES du Temps”, written specifically for this book by Jacques Roubaud and typeset by René Jeanne in Times type.

Comprising 53+6+12+36 pages (excluding title pages and colophon), the work is  omplete in its slipcase, which houses the full edition.
