Musings from My Leisure

The first volume in the collection, published in 1992, pairs American conceptual artist Robert Barry—exhibited by Yvon Lambert as early as 1971—with art historian Jean-Claude Lebensztejn.

Titled “Musings from My Leisure”, the English translation of Jean-Claude Lebensztejn’s text reproduced in the book (“Une rêverie émanée de mes loisirs”).

The text accompanies twenty-four original lithographs by Robert Barry. These drawings are composed of words—essential elements of his artistic practice—printed from white-on-gray pencil drawings on 270 g/m² white Arches Vélin paper, printed on the Voirin press at the Imprimerie Nationale. The white of the words appears slightly shaky and uneven, faithfully capturing the movement of the hand.

The text was hand-set by the typographers of the Atelier du Livre in Didot millimétrique type and printed on 270 gsm black Vélin d’Arches paper in the exact same grey tone as the drawings.

The volume is presented unbound, housed in a box covered with a lithograph.
