Kenya is a country with a young population, full of would-be consumers. Chaumont Zaerpour’s Things People Wear in Kenya is a photographic study of fashion as lived, worn, produced and consumed there. The book is an extensive, meandering observation of unscripted and posed contemporary clothes-wearing. Kenyan urbanites can choose from three principal clothing sources: local fashion labels, which are expensive and for most unaffordable as the raw materials are imported; mass-produced low-quality yet still comparatively dear garments from countries further east; or the mitumba trade, second-hand clothing which originates in Western clothing donation. This business, which has emerged over the past three decades, works when used clothes are exported from Europe and sold, at low cost and in high volumes, to African buyers, ending up distributed through market stalls. The photographers consider these distinct trades on their travels between Nairobi, Mombasa, Lake Naivasha and the World Heritage Site of Lamu.
The different fashion economies intertwine in the book, which is above all informed by Kenyan voices – clothing designers and wearers alike who spoke to the authors about their perception of clothing today during their two research periods travelling around the country. Their testimonies and the stories behind the photographs illuminate how textile cultures have been formed and informed by actors both in and far beyond Kenya. The reading experience of the book, with the mass of images and their rhythm, is akin to working through the dizzying piles of clothes in a mitumba market. Fashion is of relevance to everyone, whatever their income, and intersects with equally pressing social, economic and religious concerns.
Chaumont Zaerpour are Agathe Zaerpour and Philippine Chaumont who operate in the field of experimental fashion photography and art direction. They met at ECAL in Lausanne, where they graduated in 2014. They both live and work in Paris. Things People Wear in Kenya is their first book with Kodoji Press.

Occasionally, some item may be in the process of restocking. If this causes a delay in preparing your order, we will contact you directly by email to inform you.
2. Shipping & Delivery
- Packaging
We pack every order with care to ensure it arrives safely. Posters and prints are rolled and placed in a sturdy cardboard tube, which is then secured in a shipping box.
Important Note on Combined Orders:
Please be aware that certain items, like books and posters, cannot be safely packed together due to their different shapes and sizes. As a result, an order containing multiple item types may be shipped in separate packages and incur separate shipping fees. - Shipping Rates & Carriers
We ship worldwide from Paris via La Poste (France's national postal service), using their Colissimo, Priority Mail services with the exception of certain products shipped via UPS. Shipping costs are automatically calculated at checkout based on the weight, volume, and destination of your package. If you require a different carrier (e.g., UPS, FedEx, DHL), please contact us before placing your order to arrange it. - Estimated Transit Times

3. Free In-Store Pickup (Paris)
You can skip the shipping fees with our free local pickup service at our bookshop in Paris.

If you are ordering from outside of France but wish to collect your order at our bookshop in Paris, please select "France" as the delivery country first. In-stock items will be ready for pickup within 24 hours (Tuesday-Saturday). This does not apply to made-to-order items like art prints and t-shirts. - Notification:

Return Policy
- 14 to 30-Day Returns: You have 14 clear days from delivery to notify us of your return if you reside within the European Union, and 30 days for orders delivered outside the European Union.
- Item Condition: Items must be returned intact, new, and securely packaged in their original condition to be eligible for a refund.
- Contact Us First: Before sending an item back, you must email us at shop@yvon-lambert.com to notify us of your decision and receive return instructions.
- Shipping Costs: Return shipping costs are your sole responsibility.
- Damaged Items: If your order arrives damaged, please send us photographs of both the package and the item by email as soon as possible (within 48 to 72 hours). If the package is visibly damaged upon delivery, you may refuse it directly with the carrier.
- International Returns (Non EU): To prevent customs charges upon arrival in France, you must clearly mark "RETURNED GOODS" on the customs declaration form (CN22/CN23) as well as on the outside of the package.
- Refunds: Once your return is received and inspected at our store, your refund will be processed within 14 days using your original payment method.
- Non-refundable Items: Magazines and custom or made-to-order items are non-refundable.
