Fond Perdu Vol. 3, is a visual trace of Sahmaran Gün reality and identity, focusing on finding beauty in places where most might not choose to look. Seeing depends on our habits and intentions, and our ideology is usually a by-product of social perceptions, in which we are trained to see certain features a certain way, consequently often seeing things that don’t exist, and fail to recognise things that do. Sahmaran Gün’ homecoming brings attention to the everyday life of her community; Turkish immigrants living in the ‘Banlieues’ of Paris, showcasing there is more commonality between us than we think, and that our history is shared, as each generation, society, race, has a familiar set of personal characteristics and common life experiences.

Solène Sahmaran Gün’s work plays with the idea of identity, youth, and territory. A Middle Eastern immigrant herself, being born in the Parisian ‘Banlieue,’ Sahmaran Gün uses her upbringing as main inspiration, bridging the gap between misconceptions that were put in place by society, versus a more simple and common ways of thinking about the relationships between individuals, culture, and history.
