Catalogue of the POUSH exhibition at Collection Lambert in Avignon, "Revenir du présent. Regards croisés sur la scène actuelle" (February 10 – May 19)
The Collection Lambert in Avignon and POUSH have joined forces to present an exhibition at the heart of the papal city, showcasing the work of around forty resident artists from the Greater Paris artist incubator. Organized through the prism of the intersecting perspectives of a contemporary art center and a collective space for artistic creation, “Coming Back from the Present” is conceived as an echo chamber in which resonate works born from a multitude of artists and gestures, witnesses to art in the making, here and now. The proposals of these creators from diverse regions and nationalities, working within the dynamic studios of POUSH in Aubervilliers (93), trace the contours of a plural, open, and globally conscious French art scene, attuned to the complexities of contemporary issues. Curators Stéphane Ibars (Collection Lambert) and Yvannoé Kruger (POUSH) have sought to establish a triangulation between the new Parisian territories, the neighborhoods of the Avignon metropolitan area, and the projects that enliven them.
Conceived as a long-term journey, the exhibition invites visitors to experience a succession of atmospheres in which unfold the possible representations of our relationships to the world. Rituals, appropriations, fables, dreams, and other spatial transformations infiltrate the rooms of the Collection Lambert to preemptively subvert the darkness of a future yet to come. In line with the concerns that drive both organizing institutions, the exhibition is the outcome of a shared reflection on support for creation and production—carefully considering not only the most meaningful integration of the works within their exhibition context but also the guidance and assistance offered to artists as part of their ongoing explorations.
The publication, the second collaboration between Éditions Dilecta and POUSH, comprises around forty entries—one per artist—and three essays: a jointly written text by the two curators of the exhibition, along with contributions by Marc Donnadieu and Stéphanie Pécourt, structured around in situ views.
With: Mathilde Albouy, Estèla Alliaud, Hugo Avigo, Abdelhak Benallou, Djabril Boukhenaissi, Apollinaria Broche, Grégory Chatonsky, Salomé Chatriot, Gaëlle Choisne, Max Coulon, Morgan Courtois, Xolo Cuintle, Marlon De Azambuja, Cyril Debon, Julian Farade, Cledia Fourniau, Laura Garcia Karras, Célia Gondol, Pascal Hachem, Arash Hanaei, Michel Jocaille, Anne Le Troter, Matisse Mesnil, Daniel Otero Torres, Luca Resta, Edgar Sarin, Ugo Schildge, Erwan Sene, Dune Varela, Ittah Yoda (non-exhaustive list).
About the Collection Lambert
A contemporary art center born from the initiative of art dealer and collector Yvon Lambert—who donated to the French state an exceptional ensemble of major works spanning from the 1960s to the present day—the Collection Lambert occupies two historic townhouses in the heart of Avignon’s museum district. Directed by François Quintin, the institution permanently presents masterpieces from its collection alongside original temporary exhibitions by today’s artists and offers a creative, socially engaged cultural program for all audiences. For several years, the Collection Lambert has placed special emphasis on supporting emerging creation, particularly artists from the South of France. To expand this support and open its doors to emerging artists from all regions of France and abroad, the Collection Lambert has partnered since 2019 with the Viva Villa! project and is now collaborating with POUSH.
