This fourteenth issue of Common Language focuses on history—on our understanding of it, its transmission, and the way it shapes our view of the present.
As art historian Camille Morineau points out, writing history is never a neutral act. Recording, identifying and connecting trajectories produces information; this information in turn generates recognition, and thus a form of power. Naming, archiving, transmitting: these are all acts that determine what remains visible and what disappears.
Journalist Yvane Jacob invites us to take a closer look at an area often overlooked by official narratives: clothing. For clothing, far from being a mere aesthetic commentary, is one of the most precise languages of social change. It tells the story of the constraints and freedoms, the norms and acts of resistance, and the desires of an era.
Through our little dictionary of lingerie, a history of the female body in motion thus emerges. The invention of nylon mesh that modernised tights, the bicycle that revolutionised social mores and gave rise to modern knickers, the corset that gradually broke down to give birth to the first bra: all these technical innovations accompany, and sometimes precede, profound changes in society. These transformations are often subtle, almost invisible, yet they play a part in redefining women’s place in society, their mobility and their autonomy.
These pages explore these slow-unfolding stories, woven from gestures, materials and customs. An archaeology of everyday life that resonates particularly strongly today, as Chantelle celebrates its 150th anniversary. For a century and a half, the house has accompanied—and sometimes anticipated—these developments, observing how bodies transform, how expectations change, and how women reinvent their relationship with themselves.
Other narratives run through this issue, drawing unexpected connections between lives, continents and eras. The photocopied daily life of American artist Pati Hill thus engages in dialogue with the artistic and sociological investigation conducted by Camille Lévêque around the figure of the father. Two ways of exploring the intimate, traces and legacies. An introspective work that finds an echo in the philosophical poems—sometimes absurd, always incisive—of photographer Coco Capitán.
Through these accounts, images and fragments of thought, a conviction emerges: history is never set in stone. It is written in the archives, in works of art, but also in everyday actions, in the objects we carry, and in the forms we invent to inhabit our bodies. And perhaps this is one of the invisible threads running through this issue: understanding where the forms that surround us come from, so that we can better imagine those yet to be invented.

We process orders from Tuesday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

Our photo prints and t-shirts are produced on-demand. Please allow 2-3 weeks for production before these items are shipped. - In-Stock Items (All Other Products)
All other orders are processed and prepared for shipment within 1-2 business days. - Order Notifications
You will receive a confirmation email immediately after your purchase. A second email with tracking information will be sent as soon as your order has shipped. - Restocking
Occasionally, some item may be in the process of restocking. If this causes a delay in preparing your order, we will contact you directly by email to inform you.
2. Shipping & Delivery
- Packaging
We pack every order with care to ensure it arrives safely. Posters and prints are rolled and placed in a sturdy cardboard tube, which is then secured in a shipping box.
Important Note on Combined Orders:
Please be aware that certain items, like books and posters, cannot be safely packed together due to their different shapes and sizes. As a result, an order containing multiple item types may be shipped in separate packages and incur separate shipping fees. - Shipping Rates & Carriers
We ship worldwide from Paris via La Poste (France's national postal service), using their Colissimo, Priority Mail services. Shipping costs are automatically calculated at checkout based on the weight, volume, and destination of your package. If you require a different carrier (e.g., UPS, FedEx, DHL), please contact us before placing your order to arrange it. - Estimated Transit Times
Once your order has shipped, the estimated delivery times are as follows:
Colissimo (Signature Required)
France: 2-3 business days
Europe: 3-5 business days
International: 5-8 business days
Standard / Priority Mail (With tracking number, No Signature)
France: 2-3 business days
Europe: 5-7 business days
International: 7-14 business days

3. Free In-Store Pickup (Paris)
You can skip the shipping fees with our free local pickup service at our bookshop in Paris.
- How it Works:
Simply select the "Pick up" option at checkout.
* The "Pick up" option is displayed based on your location. If you are ordering from outside of France but wish to collect your order at our bookshop in Paris, please select "France" as the delivery country first. The "Pick up" option will then become available. If the location still does not appear, you can click on "Search elsewhere" and enter the postcode 75003. - Preparation Time:
In-stock items will be ready for pickup within 24 hours (Tuesday-Saturday). This does not apply to made-to-order items like art prints and t-shirts. - Notification:
We will send you an email as soon as your order is ready for collection, along with instructions. - Pickup Hours:
Tuesday - Saturday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM (10h - 19h)
Sunday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM (14h - 19h) - What to Bring:

Return Policy
- 14 to 30-Day Returns: You have 14 clear days from delivery to notify us of your return if you reside within the European Union, and 30 days for orders delivered outside the European Union.
- Item Condition: Items must be returned intact, new, and securely packaged in their original condition to be eligible for a refund.
- Contact Us First: Before sending an item back, you must email us at shop@yvon-lambert.com to notify us of your decision and receive return instructions.
- Shipping Costs: Return shipping costs are your sole responsibility.
- Damaged Items: If your order arrives damaged, please send us photographs of both the package and the item by email as soon as possible (within 48 to 72 hours). If the package is visibly damaged upon delivery, you may refuse it directly with the carrier.
- International Returns (Non EU): To prevent customs charges upon arrival in France, you must clearly mark "RETURNED GOODS" on the customs declaration form (CN22/CN23) as well as on the outside of the package.
- Refunds: Once your return is received and inspected at our store, your refund will be processed within 14 days using your original payment method.
- Non-refundable Items: Magazines and custom or made-to-order items are non-refundable.
