American Art Catalogues presents Paul Thek: Untitled Sketchbook, a facsimile of a notebook from 1969 in which Thek, during his too-brief lifetime, sketched, scribbled, and simmered images and ideas. Featuring thirty-one drawings that have never before been shown publicly, the book is filled with searching self-portraits, likely sketched in a mirror as an act of self-reflection. (“No one has ever interested me quite as much as myself,” he once wrote.) Nearby pages feature images of Christ wearing a crown of thorns alongside strange still lifes: of a crucifix lying next to an empty ashtray, of a mushroom growing what looks like a corkscrew tail, and other of his visions.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1933, Thek first gained attention in the 1960s. His pathbreaking installations, performances, and paintings addressed the body and mortality, which feel in hindsight hauntingly prescient of his death in 1988 at the age of fifty-four of AIDS.“I sometimes think that there is nothing but time,” he said, “that what you see and what you feel is what time looks like at that moment”—which may explain why his art remains so potent here in the present.
Paul Thek (1933–1988) was an artist, sculptor, and one of the first artists to work on large scale environments. Although based in New York for most of his life, he spent a significant part of the 1970s in Europe, where he made theatrical installations in collaboration with other artists. He has been the subject of major exhibitions across the globe including at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe; the Sammlung Falckenberg, Hamburg; the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and others. Thek's estate is represented by Pace Gallery, Galerie Buchholz, and Mai 36 Galerie.

All other orders are processed and prepared for shipment within 1-2 business days. - Order Notifications
You will receive a confirmation email immediately after your purchase. A second email with tracking information will be sent as soon as your order has shipped. - Restocking
Occasionally, some item may be in the process of restocking. If this causes a delay in preparing your order, we will contact you directly by email to inform you.
2. Shipping & Delivery
- Packaging
We pack every order with care to ensure it arrives safely. Posters and prints are rolled and placed in a sturdy cardboard tube, which is then secured in a shipping box.
Important Note on Combined Orders:
Please be aware that certain items, like books and posters, cannot be safely packed together due to their different shapes and sizes. As a result, an order containing multiple item types may be shipped in separate packages and incur separate shipping fees. - Shipping Rates & Carriers
We ship worldwide from Paris via La Poste (France's national postal service), using their Colissimo, Priority Mail services with the exception of certain products shipped via UPS. Shipping costs are automatically calculated at checkout based on the weight, volume, and destination of your package. If you require a different carrier (e.g., UPS, FedEx, DHL), please contact us before placing your order to arrange it. - Estimated Transit Times
Once your order has shipped, the estimated delivery times are as follows:

3. Free In-Store Pickup (Paris)
You can skip the shipping fees with our free local pickup service at our bookshop in Paris.
- How it Works:
Simply select the "Pick up" option at checkout.
* The "Pick up" option is displayed based on your location. If you are ordering from outside of France but wish to collect your order at our bookshop in Paris, please select "France" as the delivery country first. The "Pick up" option will then become available. If the location still does not appear, you can click on "Search elsewhere" and enter the postcode 75003. - Preparation Time:
In-stock items will be ready for pickup within 24 hours (Tuesday-Saturday). This does not apply to made-to-order items like art prints and t-shirts. - Notification:
We will send you an email as soon as your order is ready for collection, along with instructions. - Pickup Hours:

Return Policy
- 14 to 30-Day Returns: You have 14 clear days from delivery to notify us of your return if you reside within the European Union, and 30 days for orders delivered outside the European Union.
- Item Condition: Items must be returned intact, new, and securely packaged in their original condition to be eligible for a refund.
- Contact Us First: Before sending an item back, you must email us at shop@yvon-lambert.com to notify us of your decision and receive return instructions.
- Shipping Costs: Return shipping costs are your sole responsibility.
- Damaged Items: If your order arrives damaged, please send us photographs of both the package and the item by email as soon as possible (within 48 to 72 hours). If the package is visibly damaged upon delivery, you may refuse it directly with the carrier.
- International Returns (Non EU): To prevent customs charges upon arrival in France, you must clearly mark "RETURNED GOODS" on the customs declaration form (CN22/CN23) as well as on the outside of the package.
- Refunds: Once your return is received and inspected at our store, your refund will be processed within 14 days using your original payment method.
- Non-refundable Items: Magazines and custom or made-to-order items are non-refundable.
